CommunityFunded.com went live today! Community Funded is a means of crowdfunding locally. (They call it Mega Community Collaboration, or MC2, and say that it’s different than crowdfunding, but it still sounds pretty similar to me.) It was started by some local folks, McCabe Callahan (owner of Mugs Coffee Lounge, a cafe that has remained north of Prospect not only in its original location, but also in its two current locations), Blue Hovatter (board chair at Beet Street among other things), and Ryan Stover; all three are CSU grads.
There are several neat projects on the site already looking for funding. The only project that I’ve checked out so far is the Loco Food Distribution page. (I was alerted to their project by the Slow Food Northern Colorado page on Facebook.) I’ve got to admit that the idea of funding local projects knocks my socks right off. I’m often on kickstarter and I tend to only look through the projects that are in Colorado. But then there’s the hunting and the pecking and all that. The fact that CommunityFunded is all Northern Colorado all the time (at least for now) is great.
The Coloradoan has a recent article on the project if you’d like to read more.
